Crorepati candidates in Bihar elections 2020 and those facing criminal charges - meet them all
Out of 1,463 candidates contesting in the second phase, 495 or 34 per cent are crorepatis, says a report
Bihar elections 2020: As the state votes in the second phase of the election on Tuesday, the assets declared by the candidates have thrown up some interesting figures. Out of 1,463 candidates contesting in the second phase, 495 or 34 per cent are crorepatis, while the average assets per candidate in the fray in Phase II is Rs 1.72 crore, revealed data collated by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). ADR data is based on candidate affidavits filed with the Election Commission.
As per the data, Congress nominees from Vaishali seat, Sanjeev Singh, is the richest candidate in the second phase of the election. Singh has assets worth Rs 56.6 crore. Singh is followed by RJD’s Deo Kumar Chaurasia with Rs 49 crore. Deo is contesting from Haripur constituency.
Richest candidate overall in the state election is RJD’s Anant Singh with Rs 68 crore declared assets. Anant Singh, who is currently in jail, is contesting from Mokama in the first phase of the election.
According to ADR data, BJP has maximum candidates with more than Rs 1 crore in assets.
“Among the major parties, 39 or 85 per cent, out of 46 candidates from BJP, 20 or 83 per cent, out of 24 candidates from Congress, 46 or 82 per cent, out of 56 candidates from RJD, 35 or 81 per cent, out of 43 candidates from JD(U), 38 or 73 per cent, out of 52 candidates from LJP and 11 or 33 per cent, out of 33 candidates from BSP have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore,” the report said.
“The average assets per candidate for 24 Congress candidates is Rs 10.25 crore, Rs 4.95 crore for 43 JD(U) candidates, 56 RJD candidates have average assets worth Rs 4.82 crore, 52 LJP candidates have average assets to the tune of Rs 3.86 crore, 46 BJP candidates have average assets of Rs 3.44 crore and 33 BSP candidates have average assets worth Rs 1.30 crore,” says ADR report.
Three candidates have declared zero assets, while 683 candidates have declared liabilities in their affidavits.

Besides, 502 candidates in second phase also have criminal background, says the report. The data also reveals that the RJD has maximum candidates with criminal cases registered against them followed by the BJP.
