As per a preliminary study by Coronavirus Vaccine-induced Antibody Titre (COVAT) involving healthcare workers (HCW) who have received both doses of either of the two vaccines, Covishield produced more antibodies than Covaxin. The study involved those healthcare workers who have been administered either of the two vaccines Covishield and Covaxin and were with or without past history of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

According to an ANI report, this study claimed that the seropositivity rates to anti-spike antibody were significantly higher in Covishield recipient compared to the Covaxin recipient after the first dose. It said that both the vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin, elicited good response after both the doses, however, seropositivity rate and median anti-spike antibody were significantly higher in Covishield. One thing must also be noted in this context, the study that is referred to in here is a preprint and has not been peer-reviewed and so it should not be used to guide clinical practice.

The study said, "Amongst the 552 HCW (325 Male, 227 Female), 456 and 96 received the first dose of Covishield and Covaxin respectively. Overall, 79.3 per cent showed seropositivity after the first dose. Responder rate and median (IQR) rise in anti-spike antibody were significantly higher in Covishield vs. Covaxin recipient (86.8 vs. 43.8 per cent; 61.5 vs. 6 AU/ml; both p<0.001)." Nevertheless, in conclusion, the study stated that both the vaccines have shown elicited good response.

It must be noted that the COVID-19 vaccination drive started in the country from January 16, 2021, with the two vaccines - Covishield and Covaxin. Recently, Russia's Sputnik V has also been approved and is available in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), 23.27 crore of vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. On June 7, 2021, the country reported 1 lakh fresh COVID-19 infections over the last 24 hours which is the lowest in 61 days.
