COVID-19 Cases India News: On Friday, India's total tally of cases increased to over 4.06 crore, as per the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The positivity rate of the country dropped to 15.88 per cent, as per news agency ANI.

Schools reopening
The schools in India have also started to reopen. Maharashtra has reopened the schools for classes 1 to 12 from January 24, 2022.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted on January 26, "I agree with their demands. We closed school when it was not safe for children but excessive caution is now harming our children. A generation of children will be left behind if we do not open our schools now."

The schools in Haryana will also be reopened for classes 10 to 12 from February 1, 2022, as per an ANI report.
Weekend curfew lifted in Delhi
On Thursday, the Delhi government lifted the weekend curfew in the national capital amid improvement in the situation in Covid-19. As of now, the night curfew will remain in effect. The shops will no longer have to follow odd-even curbs. The decision was made in a meeting chaired by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.
A cap of 200 people will also be imposed on wedding festivals in the capital by the DDMA. Additionally, the bars and restaurants have been instructed to operate with 50 per cent of their capacity.
Update on BA.2 Omicron subvariant
In the midst of this situation, there are reports of Omicron subvariant from Europe. The BA.2 subvariant of the Omicron coronavirus variant, which is dominant in Denmark, appears to be more contagious than the more common BA.1 sub-lineage said Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke on Wednesday, as per a Reuters report. However, it has also been reported that this subvariant is not more severe.
India recorded 2,51,209 new coronavirus cases on Friday, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
