Covid-19 vaccine availability: India is currently in the third phase of the nationwide vaccination drive where people above the age of 18 years are getting vaccinated. However, the nation is facing a big shortage in the number of vaccines delivered as demand has surged in the face of rising number of Covid-19 cases. .

To meet the rising demand for vaccination new facilities are being created and one such is all set to start in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr. It will soon begin the production of Covaxin. The manufacture of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin at Bulandshahr plant of Bharat Immunologicals and Biologicals Corporation Limited (BIBCOL) has got approval by the Centre for the same.

As per a report by News18, 2 crore doses of Covaxin will be manufactured by the company every month. BIBCOL will receive Rs 30 crore from the Centre for the production of the Covid-19 vaccines.

Due to the shortage of Covid-19 vaccines in the country some states including Delhi and Maharashtra have suspended the vaccination drive for the age group of 18-44 years.

People under the age of 45 years will not be getting Covaxin shots from Thursday, the Delhi government had said on Wednesday. The decision has been taken due to the limited stocks of the vaccine left for the next four days.

Similarly, Maharashtra has also decided to temporarily suspend its vaccinate drive for the people in the age group of 18 to 44 over the shortage of jabs. The state has also diverted the available stock of doses for people who are above 45 years of age.

According to a report by India.com, Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech have submitted their production plan for the next four months to the Centre and have informed that they can ramp it up to 10 crore and 7.8 crore doses respectively by August.

Currently, the vaccines used by the nation to help fight against the coronavirus include Covaxin and Covishield.

As per the latest information provided by the Union Health Ministry, India has registered 3,62,727 new Covid-19 cases and 4,120 deaths in the last 24 hours. The daily recovered cases stand at 3,52,181.
