Some may argue that one can avoid the vaccine shots as one already has developed the anti-bodies. But that is very much wrong. One must get certain things clear.
Dr. Navneet Kaur, General Physician, Apollo Spectra Nehru Enclave, Delhi while speaking to india.com explained why it is important for the people who have fought COVID-19 to get vaccinated despite developing the antibodies. She said, "Even if you were infected with COVID, you will have to get vaccinated without fail. If you haven’t registered yourself for taking the jab then do that right away! The vaccine will help you rev up your immune system and offer that much-needed protection from the virus."
Dr. Kaur further pointed out the fact that it is unknown how long one's immunity will last against the coronavirus in case of natural infection of COVID-19. She also clarified the fact that even COVID-19 vaccination will help one to keep the symptoms of the disease at bay. So, it is recommended that those who had already tested COVID-19 positive should also get vaccinated. "The vaccine will give you that reliable and sustainable immunity against the virus. The bonus point - you will be able to add that extra layer of protection," she added.
Now the question may arise when should those who had already tested positive for COVID-19 get the vaccine shot? To this, Dr. Kaur replied that one should take the vaccine jab as soon as one finishes the quarantine. She further informed, "In the case of having monoclonal bodies that are man-made proteins that act like human antibodies in the immune system, you will have to wait for 90 days after recovering from the infection." She explained that one has to wait for 90 days in case of monoclonal bodies because the vaccine will not work when it comes to monoclonal antibodies, and one will fail to develop the robust immune response to the vaccine.
It must be noted that one can register for COVID-19 vaccination at CoWIN portal by logging in to cowin.gov.in.
