COVID-19 Vaccination Latest News Today: India had started its vaccination drive with Covaxin and Covishield on January 16, 2021. As per ANI, The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Thursday in a press release stated, "The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 17,91,77,029 per the 8 PM provisional report today."

However, a certain portion of the population is still left to be vaccinated. Now, there is a general query among the people regarding the COVID-19 vaccination - which one is the better vaccine of the two.

As per a report by dnaindia.com, both Covaxin and Covishield have been developed similarly and there is no better vaccine between them. The two vaccines Bharat Biotech's Covaxin and Oxford-AstraZeneca's Covishield are homegrown and may be termed relatively safer than other modern vaccines and carry a lower than usual risk of side effects. Indian vaccines have good efficacy rates right now as stated by some clinical studies.

Now, there are also enquiries regarding the side-effects of these two vaccines. Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has developed Covaxin and it uses an inactive form of the virus. Till now, the side effects which have been observed for Covaxin include redness in the arm, pain at the injection site, low-grade temperature, malaise, headache, vomiting, weakness, and fatigue. 

On the other hand, the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine, marketed in India as Covishield is widely considered a safe vaccine to use. It has been observed that a person can develop some mild symptoms such as pain, warmth, itching, bruising, fatigue, chills, fever, nausea, muscle ache, lumps, and malaise.

India had started its vaccination drive with Covaxin and Covishield on January 16, 2021. The second phase of COVID-19 vaccination to inoculate people above 60 years of age and those above 45 years with comorbidities was started from March 1, 2021. The third phase began from April 1, 2021, where all above 45 years were included. In the next phase, that started from May 1, 2021, all adults above 18 years of age were included.

With these two, another COVID-19 vaccine will be available in the Indian market from next week. On Thursday, Dr. VK Paul, Member-Health of Niti Aayog, informed that the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in the country, and it is expected that the vaccine will be available in the market by next week as per india.com. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories will manufacture the vaccine in the country.
