COVID-19 Vaccination Latest News: The National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration (NEGVAC)  for COVID-19 on Wednesday has recommended COVID-19 vaccination for all lactating women. With the beginning of the vaccination drive in the country, this was one of the most common queries that has finally been answered. However, regarding COVID-19 vaccination for pregnant women, it has been informed that the matter is still under discussion.

The above-mentioned recommendation is one of the fresh recommendations put forward by NEGVAC and based on the evolving COVID-19 pandemic situation and emerging global scientific evidence and experience as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. According to an ANI report, NEGVAC's new recommendations further said that if a person gets infected with COVID-19 after taking the first vaccine shot, the second shot should be deferred by three months after clinical recovery from the illness.

Coming back to the issue on vaccination for pregnant women, the expert panel informed that this matter is under discussion and further deliberation by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI). 

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has written to the states and the union territories to direct to the concerned officials to take note of the new recommendations and undertake necessary actions for their effective implementation. 

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Wednesday stated that India has crossed a significant landmark in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic after the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country neared 18.7 crores. The country has reported 2,76,070 cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours. As many as 3,69,077 discharges have been reported which is more than the number of daily cases reported.

The MoHFW on Thursday informed that so far, the central government has provided more than 21 crore vaccine doses to the states and union territories.
