COVID-19 Vaccination Latest News : After it was announced that the gap between the first and the second doses of the Covishield COVID-19 vaccination has been extended to 12 to 16 weeks, there were much confusion among the beneficiaries that if their appointments on the CoWIN app will be cancelled. On Sunday, the union health ministry has informed that already booked online appointments for the second dose of Covishield vaccine will remain valid and the same will not be cancelled on the CoWIN platform.

According to a press release by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the necessary changes have been made on the CoWIN portal and for the upcoming online books on the portal, it will automatically reflect the extension of interval for two doses of Covishield to 12-16 weeks. The people must also take a note of the fact that the already booked appointments for the second dose of Covishield will remain valid and will not be cancelled by CoWIN. 

On May 13, 2021, the central government accepted the recommendation put forward by the COVID Working Group chaired by Dr.  N K Arora to extend the gap between the first and the second doses of the Covishield COVID-19 vaccine to 12 to 16 weeks.As a result of this, at present, on the CoWIN portal, further online or on-site appointments will not be possible if the period after first dose date for a beneficiary is less than 84 days.

According to the data from the Union Ministry of Health on Monday, India's daily spike of COVID-19 cases remained below the three-lakh mark for the first time, nearly after 26 days. In the last 24 hours, the country has recorded 2,81,386 fresh COVID-19 cases. In a relief to the people, amidst the reports of shortages for COVID-19 vaccines across the country, the MoHFW in a release on Sunday stated that nearly 51 lakh vaccines will be received by the states and the union territories in the next three days.
