COVID-19 vaccination for 18+ RESUMES in Mumbai from TODAY

Vaccination for 18+ in Mumbai Today: There is a relief for the people of Mumbai as the COVID-19 vaccination for adults of 18 years and above resumes today in Mumbai after a pause of 40 days. The vaccination drive for those above 18 years of age was suspended from May 12, 2021. Since then, the BMC had been administering free vaccines to those above 45 years of age.

It must be noted that for 18+ people, 50 per cent of the slots will be kept for walk-in vaccination and 50 per cent from online registration. This is for BMC and government vaccination centres. BMC has provided 150 doses to each sector for vaccinating adults between 18 and 45 years.

Following the vaccination of 18+, BMC will prioritise its plan of vaccinating the super spreaders. The super spreaders include the hawkers, auto-taxi drivers, delivery boys and others.

The nationwide vaccination drive commenced in the country with Covishield and Covaxin COVID-19 vaccines from January 16, 2021. The government announced that all adults above 18 years of age will be included in the vaccination drive from May 1, 2021. However, in Mumbai vaccination for those above 18 years had to be stopped due to the shortage of vaccine doses.

For the adults above 30 years of age, administering of COVID-19 vaccine doses in the city resumed from June 19, 2021. 

In his address on the national television on June 7, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the central government would take over the nationwide vaccination drive. He further stated that the central government would procure 75 per cent of the vaccines and give them to the states for free distribution to all citizens above 18 years of age. Furthermore, the central government will handle the 25 per cent vaccination that was with the states as of now under the liberalised vaccination policy announced earlier.

As per the Union Ministry of Health, the prices for Covishield and Covaxin have been fixed at Rs 780 and Rs 1410, respectively while the price of Sputnik V has been capped at Rs 1145 at the private hospitals. 

The PM in his address had stated that the private hospitals will continue to buy the remaining 25 per cent and administer to those who are willing to pay for the COVID-19 vaccine shots. However, the private hospitals will not be allowed to charge more than Rs 150 as service charge over the fixed prices of the vaccines.
