Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Tested Covid Positive: Amid the rise of coronavirus cases in India, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has been tested positive for COVID-19. He is currently under home quarantine with mild symptoms, said officials.

The minister said a team of doctors examined him and advised him to rest.

Singh was scheduled to attend the Indian Air Force Commanders' Conference in Delhi on Thursday. But after testing positive for the virus, he had to skip it, said officials.

It should be noted that, on Wednesday, the minister attended the Army Commanders conference during which he was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande and other senior Army officers.

According to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday, India recorded 12,591 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the highest in around eight months. The active cases have increased to 65,286, while the death toll has increased to 5,31,230 with 40 fatalities, which includes 11 reconciled by Kerala.

The total tally of Covid cases was recorded at 4.48 crore. The daily positivity rate was 5.46 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was 5.32 per cent.
