India saw a single-day rise of 7,171 new coronavirus cases, while the active cases have decreased to 51,314, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

The death toll increased to 5,31,508 with 40 deaths, which included 15 reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated. The total tally of COVID cases was recorded at 4.49 crore.

The active cases now comprise 0.11 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.70 per cent, according to the health ministry website. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,43,56,693 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent. According to the ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in the country so far. 

Medical experts have said that the Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 could be driving the surge in cases in the city. However, they have said that there is no need to panic and people should follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get their booster shots.

Precautions to be taken if tested positive
 

 

The government advisory as well as the doctors suggested getting isolated once someone tests positive.

The affected individual should stay home for at least 5 -7 days as he or she is likely most infectious during these first 5 days. In case, the affected individual needs to come out of the room, then wearing a high-quality mask is recommended The affected individual and others in the house should wash with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use alcohol-based hand sanitiser.  

It has been also advised to use a separate bathroom in the home. Additionally, the affected person is also advised to use separate dishes, glasses, cups, and eating utensils and not share these with other members of the house. 

Further, keep a close eye on the oxygen level of the body and measure your body temperature at regular intervals. It is advised to eat nutritious meals with protein-rich food and stay hydrated.

Moreover, never take any medicines or any anti-biotic without consulting the doctor.
