COVID-19: The number of COVID-19 cases rose over 30,000 once again in the last 24 hours. As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the country has recorded 31,923 new cases in the last 24 hours. According to the data from the MoHFW, India recorded 26,964 new cases on September 22, 2021.

At present, India's active caseload accounts for less than one per cent of the total number of cases. Currently, it is 0.90 per cent which is the lowest since March 2020.

The recovery rate in the country is 97.77 per cent which is highest since March 2020. India has also recorded 31,990 recoveries in the last 24 hours and the total recoveries now stands at 3,28,15,731.

As per the data from the MoHFW, 83.39 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.

Now, the major cause of concern for the people is the 3rd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India - when it will hit the country and what will be its impact. According to an ANI report on August 23, 2021, the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) warned of a third wave peak in October in its report to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). It has to be noted that the NIDM's report quoted Reuters' opinion survey of 40 experts that forecast that the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to hit India between July 15, 2021, and October 13, 2021.

In another COVID-19 related development, the central government on Wednesday apprised the Supreme Court that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has recommended an amount of Rs 50,000 as ex-gratia to be paid to families of those who have died of COVID-19, including those who were involved in relied on operations or associated in preparedness activities to the cause of death.

It has to be noted that in an affidavit filed before the apex court, the Centre said that NDMA proposed Rs 50,000 as ex-gratia amount to the kins of persons who have died of COVID-19 and the amount has to be distributed by state governments from the State Disaster Response Fund. The final hearing in Supreme Court is supposed to take place today.
