The total number of Covid-19 infections in India reached 4,30,84,913 in a single day, while active cases declined to 19,137, according to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry updated on May 3, 2022.

According to data updated at 8 am, the death toll has risen to 5,23,889 after 20 new deaths.

The ministry reported that active cases constituted 0.04 per cent of COVID-19 infections, while the national recovery rate was 98.74 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 363 cases have been removed from the active COVID-19 caseload. A weekly positivity rate of 0.71 per cent and 0.61 per cent for daily positivity were recorded, respectively, by the ministry.

Over 425,41,887 people have recovered from the disease, resulting in a case fatality rate of 1.22 per cent. The cumulative doses of the Covid-19 vaccine administered in the country so far exceed 189.23 crore. India's Covid-19 tally reached 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. 

On September 28, it surpassed 60 lakh, on October 11 it crossed 70 lakh, on October 29 it crossed 80 lakh, on November 20 it surpassed 90 lakh, and on December 19 it hit one crore.

Last year, the country reached the grim milestone of two crores on May 4 and three crores on June 23.

The 20 new fatalities include 15 from Kerala, three from Punjab and one each from Maharashtra and Mizoram.

"Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research," the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
