It is normal to have side effects like mild fever, pain at the injection site, and body ache as per a DNA report. Similar side effects are also witnessed post vaccination in case of some other diseases as well. These side effects are expected to go away with time/. The public health officials have declared the COVID-19 vaccines to be safe, but one has to keep certain things in mind when one goes for a COVID-19 vaccination.
Here is a list of Dos and Don'ts on COVID-19 vaccination. The Dos are as follows:
1) One must remain in the vaccination centre for at least 30 minutes after getting the COVID-19 vaccine shot for monitoring any adverse effect on immunisation (AEFI).
2) In case one is suffering from any health issues or taking some prescribed medicines, then one must consult with the doctor if it is safe for the person to take the vaccine.
3) If the side effects from the COVID-19 vaccine persists for a longer period of time, one must contact the vaccination centre or visit the nearest health facility.
4) One must continue maintaining the COVID-19 protocols like wearing a mask, maintain social distancing and sanitising hands from time to time even after getting the vaccination.
5) One must get the second shot of the COVID-19 vaccination as per the schedule.
It must be noted that as per the MoHFW, for the individuals taking Covishield shots, the gap between the two doses are 12-16 weeks. Again, in case of Covaxin, the gap between the two doses is four to six weeks.
The Don'ts on COVID-19 vaccination are follows:
1) One must consult the vaccination centre or visit the nearest health facility in case the side effects from COVID-19 vaccination persist for a longer period of time instead of indulging into self-medication.
2) One must not part with the vaccine card. Public places and transportation (including airlines) may start requiring some form of COVID-19 vaccine documentation for safety.
3) One must not miss the COVID-19 vaccination appointment as that could result in a wastage. Once the syringes are thawed, they must be used the same day or thrown away.
4) One is not considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 until 14 days of the last shot. Hence, one must not flout the COVID-19 protocols.
5) One must not hide any symptoms after vaccination no matter how minor one thinks it to be. This information helps to track side effects and monitor severe adverse events.
