China gets aggressive on LAC again, tries to change status quo, Indian Army jawans thwart PLA soldiers

China has once again shown aggressive behaviour against India near LAC, violating the consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements reached between the two countries earlier. China’s People’s Liberation Army soldiers made ‘provocative military movements’ on the southern bank of Pangong Tso on the night intervening 29 and 30 August, the Indian army said in a statement on Monday, accusing soldiers across the Line of Actual Control of trying to alter the status quo. 

“On the night of 29/30 August, PLA troops violated the previous consensus arrived at during military & diplomatic engagements during an ongoing standoff in Eastern Ladakh and carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo,” Col Aman Anand, PRO, Army said. 

The statement said Indian troops had been able to pre-empt the PLA from trying to change the facts on the ground. A Brigade Commander level Flag Meeting is in progress at Chushul to resolve the issues. 

“The Indian Army is committed to maintaining peace and tranquility through dialogue, but is also equally determined to protect its territorial integrity. A Brigade Commander level Flag Meeting is in progress at Chushul to resolve the issues,” Anand added.  

The movement of Chinese troops in the East Ladakh sector is seen as an effort by the Chinese side to expand the border row to the southern bank of the lake. So far, much of the Chinese deployment around the lake has been concentrated around its southern bank. The two armies have been locked in a stand-off at multiple points in the East Ladakh sector for nearly four months. 

This comes days after China also threatened to conduct a "military mission" anytime from now till September 4 in the north of the Taiwan strait, provoking Taipei to warn Beijing against any attempt to annex the democratic island nation. 

Global Times, the mouthpiece of the Xi Jinping government, said that China`s Maritime Safety Administration had announced that it was going to conduct a "military mission from Friday to September 4 in the Bohai strait and northern Yellow Sea".
