Chandrayaan-3 to be launched on July 14: What you should know about India and ISROs Moon Mission
Chandrayaan-3 Launch: The project has an estimated budget of Rs 615 crore. Yesterday, July 5, Chandrayaan-3s encapsulated assembly was coupled with the LV M3.
Chandrayaan-3 Launch: As of today, July 6, the Launch Vehicle M3/M4 (LV M3/M4) carrying Chandrayaan-3 is currently being moved to the launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has already announced the scheduled launch of the LVM3-M4/ Chandrayaan-3 mission. In a tweet, ISRO said that the launch is scheduled for July 14, 2023, at 2:35 pm IST from SDSC.
India is now gearing up for their third lunar mission, and just a few days are left until the launch of the satellite, which will help unravel more mysteries about Earth's only natural satellite, the Moon.
Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-up mission to Chandrayaan-2, which will use its landers and rovers to help demonstrate end-to-end capability for safe landing and wandering on the lunar surface. The lander and rover configuration will be propelled by the propulsion module up to 100 kilometers into the lunar orbit. To examine the Spectral and Polarimetric data of Earth from the lunar orbit, the propulsion module is equipped with the Spectro-Polarimetry of Habitable Planet Earth (SHAPE) payload.
The project has an estimated budget of Rs 615 crore. Yesterday, July 5, Chandrayaan-3's encapsulated assembly was coupled with the LV M3.
Chandrayaan-3: Launch Date and Time
Currently set to be launched on July 14 at 2:35 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
Chandrayaan-3: Lander Payload Details
Lander payloads include the Langmuir Probe (LP) to estimate the plasma density and its variations, Chandra's Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) to measure the thermal conductivity and temperature, the Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) to measure the seismicity around the landing site, and Chandra's Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) to measure the thermal conductivity and temperature. For lunar laser ranging investigations, the space agency NASA has also provided a passive Laser Retroreflector Array.
Chandrayaan-3: Rover Payload Details
The Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) are rover payloads that are used to determine the elemental composition close to the landing site.
Chandrayaan-3: Mission Goals
To showcase a Safe and Soft Landing on the Surface of the Moon
To showcase roving lunar rover technology
To carry out in-situ scientific research.
Chandrayaan-3: Mission Time Period
The lander and rover are designed to operate for one lunar daylight period, which is about 14 Earth days.
Chandrayaan-3: Launch Vehicle Details
The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV M3) launch vehicle has been designated for Chandrayaan-3, and it will place the integrated module in an Elliptic Parking Orbit (EPO) with a dimension of approximately 170 x 36500 kilometers.
