"The Union Cabinet joins the Nation in celebrating the historic success of the Chandrayaan-3 Mission to the Moon. The Cabinet also appreciates the monumental achievement of our scientists. This is not just a victory for our space agency but is a bright symbol of India's progress and ascent on the global stage. The Cabinet welcomes that 23rd August would be celebrated as the 'National Space Day'", the release said.

Congratulating the efforts of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the scientists behind this historic success, the statement read, "The Cabinet congratulates the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its efforts. Thanks to our scientists, India is the first country to land near the Moon’s south pole. Landing on the moon, with predicted accuracy, in itself is a momentous achievement. Landing near the South Pole of the Moon, overcoming the arduous conditions, is a testament to the spirit of our scientists, who since centuries have sought to push the boundaries of human knowledge."

The Cabinet also applauded the designation of two moon locations as 'Tiranga Point' (the imprint of Chandrayaan-2) and ShivShakti Point (the landing site of Chandrayaan-3) in the release.

The statement further mentioned the Cabinet's confidence in the people of the country, who shall dedicate themselves to building India into a Developed Nation by 2047.

Last Saturday, August 26, after his successful visit to South Africa for the BRICS Summit 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bengaluru, where he met with ISRO scientists and congratulated them on their accomplishments.

While addressing the scientists at ISRO's Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex, PM Modi declared August 23 to be celebrated as 'National Space Day'.

He also named the landing site of the Vikram lander as 'Shiv Shakti Point', and designated the landing point of Chandrayaan-2 as 'Tiranga Point'.
