Chandrayaan 2 launch live streaming online: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch its second Moon mission Chandrayaan 2 on Monday, a week after it was aborted on July 15. Last week, the mission was called off an hour before the scheduled lift-off due to lack of pressure in the helium tanks of the Bahubali rocket Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV-Mk III). With Chandrayaan 2, ISRO aims to reach the Moon's south polar region, a territory no country has managed to reach so far. It is also the first Indian expedition to attempt a soft landing on the lunar surface, and the first Indian mission to explore the lunar terrain with home-grown technology. With this mission, India will be the fourth country ever to soft land on the lunar surface.
Chandrayaan 2 launch date and time
As mentioned above, the Chandrayaan 2 launch date was set for July 15. However, the launch was rescheduled for July 22. The lift-off will begin at 2.43pm IST, and it will be live streamed for the world to see. The live streaming of the launch will begin at around 2 pm on various online and other channels.
Chandrayaan 2 launch live streaming online and channels
The SDSC Centre in Sriharikota was taking registrations to watch the launch live from their viewer's gallery. But, the process has ended and you can only watch the launch through live streaming. The Chandrayaan 2 launch live streaming online will be available through Twitter and Facebook page of ISRO. Meanwhile, Doordashan will also stream the event live on its YouTube channel.
Chandrayaan 2 launch place
The mission will be launched onboard the Bahubali GSLV Mk-III launch vehicle from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota. The mission will consist of the Orbiter which will relay communication between Earth and Chandrayaan-2's Lander — Vikram, after observing the lunar surface. The unmanned mission will consist of a Pragyan Rover – a 6-wheeled AI-powered that translates to 'wisdom' in Sanskrit. It can travel up to 500m and leverages solar energy for its functioning. It can only communicate with the Lander.
Importance of Chandrayaan 2
ISRO said that Chandrayaan-2 will attempt to soft land the lander - Vikram and rover - Pragyan in a high plains region between two craters, Manzinus C and Simpelius N, at a latitude of about 70 degrees south. "Evidence for water molecules discovered by Chandrayaan 1, requires further studies on the extent of water molecule distribution on the surface, below the surface and in the tenuous lunar exosphere to address the origin of water on Moon," ISRO said.
"The lunar South Pole is especially interesting because of the lunar surface area here that remains in shadow are much larger than that at the North Pole. There is a possibility of the presence of water in permanently shadowed areas around it. In addition, South Pole region has craters that are cold traps and contain a fossil record of the early Solar System," it added.
