Central government employees have a positive news at a time when the coronavirus pandemic is rearing its head again. The central government has increased their treatment package charges considerably. Not only have the CGHS packages been revived but also the eligibility criteria for the treatment have been reviewed. Since 2014, there was no change in the rates of the facilities that the central government employees had been getting at CGHS hospitals across the country.

They had been long demanding the rates be revised since the inflation has jumped significantly in last nine years.

 

Considering the situation, the health ministry talked to the concerned parties and decided to revise the charges for the treatment. After revised charges come into effect, the big hospitals will reap the most benefits. 

What are the revised CGHS charges?

Earlier, CGHS employees would get Rs150 for the OPD consultation fee and Rs 300 for the IPD consultation fee.

While OPD fee has been doubled to Rs 300, IPD consultation fee has been increased to Rs 350.

Earlier, the employees would get Rs 862 for NABH+room rent as per ward entitlement for ICU charges.

Now, they will get Rs 5,400 (Rs 862+Rs 4500 for the private ward= Rs5,362 - rounded to Rs5,400), including accommodation for all ward entitlements.

Earlier, CGHS employees would get room rents of Rs 1,000 for the general ward, Rs 2,000 for the semi-private ward, and Rs 3,000 for the private ward.

Under the revised rates, they are entitled to Rs 1,500 for a general ward, Rs 3,000 for a semi-private ward, and Rs 4,500 for a private ward room.

What are the enhanced facilities now?

The referral to a doctor has become easier now as CGHS patients can see their doctors via  video call

If a CGHS employee is unable to go to a wellness centre, they can send someone to the doctor to get a referral from the hospital 

In such cases, the medical officer on duty can check the documents of the CGHS beneficiary and refer him to get admitted to the hospital

The government informed that 42 lakh employees will get CGHS benefits from the revised rates at 1,670 empanelled hospitals.

A total of 338 centres in 79 cities have been covered.

A total of 103 allopathic and Ayush system hospitals and 213 diagnostic labs have also been covered under the new scheme.

The government informed that expansion is going on at CGHS facilities in Panchkula, Hubli, Narela, Chandigarh and Jammu.

The Centre also said that 35 more Ayush centres are in the pipeline and will be operational soon.
