Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious bullet train project has been challenged in the High Court of Gujarat. Farmers, the petitioners of the case, in their plea have said that Gujarat government has no right to acquire the land from the farmers, at least when the project needs acquisition of land of two states for a national scheme.  Actually, the government has plans to acquire lands from about 5000 farmers from 300 villages in Gujarat and Maharashtra for the 508-kilometre long Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project.

The petition accused the government of not getting the consent of farmers for the project and has not prepared the rehabilitation package, like financial conditions, of the affected people. In fact, the state has started the process of acquisition. In addition, South Gujarat farmers are protesting against the acquisition.
