In earlier times, the government used to have the business setups but now there’s no requirement for it. If there’s no requirement now so they have an option to sell the stake. After selling the stake, the government can get a lot of money.

Why government needs money? So that they can balance their expenditures and can spend it into policies or we can say with that money, they can curb the crisis. The more amount the government will spend on disinvestment, the more the market can predict about the benefits, It also gives the idea that which company is going to the what amount of stakes.
