BSE Sensex plunges by 2000 points on Monday; barring Airtel and Sun Pharma, all others end in red
BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty today ended the day deeply in red. While the 30-share Sensex closed at 31,715.35, down by almost 6 per cent or 2000 points, the broader market Nifty closed at 9,293.50, down by 5.7 per cent or 566 points
BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty today ended the day deeply in red. While the 30-share Sensex closed at 31,715.35, down by almost 6 per cent or 2000 points, the broader market Nifty closed at 9,293.50, down by 5.7 per cent or 566 points. At close, barring Bharti Airtel and Sun Pharmaceutical, all the other stocks on the 30-share Sensex were in red. The top losers in the day's trade on Monday were Indusind Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, HDFC and ICICI Bank.
Meanwhile, top performers on Nifty in Monday trade were Cipla, Bharti Airtel and Dr Reddy's. Top losers on Nifty-50 were the opening trade were ICICI Bank, Hindalco Industries, Vedanta Limited, Bajaj Finance and HDFC.
Barring Nifty Pharma, all major indices including Nifty Bank, Nifty Auto, Nifty Fin Service, Nifty FMCG, Nifty IT were trading in red today.
Among the global markets, European stock markets and oil prices fell on Monday as a spat between top US officials and China over the origin of the coronavirus fuelled fears of a new trade war, derailing a rebound in global markets. In thin trade, with China and Japan on holiday, US stock futures fell 1.6 per cent, U.S. crude tumbled over USD 1 a barrel, or 6 per cent, and futures for Australia`s benchmark ASX 200 index pointed to a negative open.
The markets today opened in red with both Sensex and Nifty falling by over 4 per cent. The was after a a good show on Thursday. Markets were closed on Friday on account of International Workers' Day.

The rupee was trading at Rs 75.8850 around 3:30 on Monday. On Thursday the rupee ended at 75.2625.
