It has been reported earlier that the Narendra Modi Government is expected to announce expansion/changes in its Union Cabinet today. The expansion is expected to take place around 6 PM. The Cabinet assembled at 11AM today to decide on the final list.

According to an ANI report, most senior NDA alliance leaders and union cabinet ministers are present at the meeting at Prime Minsiter's office residence. These leaders include Home Minsiter Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, BJP leaders Meenakshi Lekhi, Sarabananda Sonowal, Parshottam Rupala, Nisith Pramanik, Janata Dal (United) leader RCP Singh and Lok Janshakti Party leader Pashupati Paras.

As per a PTI report, Gangwar, who held the position of Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment resigned from his post early this morning.

When asked whether he has resigned from the post of Labour Minister, Gangwar answered in the affirmative. "Yes I have resigned," he told PTI.
He, however, said he is not aware what his new role in the government will be.

This will be the first reshuffle in the Council of Ministers by Prime Minister Narendra Modi since he assumed charge for a second term in May 2019.

The Prime Minister is expected to bring in young faces and give representation to various social groups and regions in the reshuffle.

The expectation from cabinet expansion at 6 PM are as follows:

OBC likely to have maximum representation in the Union Cabinet. Over 25 ministers from OBC category likely to be part of new cabinet.

Sub Castes – Govt to ensure sub cates also get adequate representation in cabinet. SC and ST may have 10 ministers each. Representations from all states likely.

The council of ministers to be youngest in this cabinet.

The average age of ministers to be lower; women likely to have significant representation.

USP will be that experience will also be given weightage; Former CMs, ministers to find a place in the cabinet; the new cabinet is expected to have a fine balance of youth and experience.
