News agency ANI has tweeted about the decision of the Maharashtra CM regarding the restoration of the local train services in Mumbai from its official Twitter handle. The tweet said, "Mumbai local train services to start from August 15 for people who have taken both doses of COVID19 vaccine: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray."

Thackeray has further informed ANI, "Passengers can download (local) train passes through the mobile app. Those who do not have smartphones can take photo passes from municipal ward offices in the city as well as suburban railway stations."

The local train services were shut down in the month of April this year due to the unprecedented rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country. According to an ANI report, the Maharashtra CM said, "Many travel organizations, as well as citizens, have repeatedly requested permission to use local services. We all know that we have not yet fully recovered from the second wave. There is also the risk of potential third wave. The central government has also repeatedly warned you about this." He further added that in order to continue the economic cycle, they are restoring the local train services with the imposition of certain criteria.

As per an ANI tweet, this decision by the Maharashtra government is a good one, a commuter said. She also suggested that the vaccination coverage should increase more in the state.

According to the state health department, as on August 8, 2021, Maharashtra reported 5,508 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
