Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced this initiative on Friday. He tweeted, "Nobody will go hungry during the lockdown. Next week onwards free food kits will be distributed for all families and guest workers. Food will be delivered to the needy from People's Restaurants and Community Kitchens through Local Self Government Institutions." The government has taken this decision to ease the burden on the people and help them survive through the second wave of the pandemic and lockdown measures taken in the state as per a report by india.com.

The Kerala Chief Minister has also mentioned that local bodies would start community kitchens in order to ensure that nobody is starved. The volunteers would deliver affordable meals from the Janakeeya hotels to their homes.

As per an ANI report, the Kerala government had announced a state-wide lockdown till May 16, 2021, in order to tackle the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Incidentally, these are the people who are facing the major crisis because of the lockdown. The free kits will contain more than 10 items.

Supplyco has also been asked to conduct the procurement immediately. Also, the state government has accepted a proposal from the Labour Department to give free food kits to migrant labourers.

The items that will be provided in the free kit are as follows:

1) Green dal (500g)

2)  Urad dal (500g)

3) Tur dal (250g)

4) Sugar (1kg)

5)  Tea powder (100g)
