Covid 19 cases have been clocking over 4 lakh cases on daily basis for the past few days. There is also fear of Coronavirus third wave, which experts say would impact children the maximum. This reason assumes significance from the point of view that most of those above 18 years would be covered in the vaccination drive before the beginning of the likely 3rd wave. This has left parents worried and everyone has been expecting from the government that it would announce vaccination for children soon.

Meanwhile, a message has been circulating on social media sites claiming that the government has approved Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for children above 12 years. This message has been shared by people and has brough sort of relief for parents, however, the government has made official statement on this rumour.  

The government stated that the claim made in this tweet is fake and has no relevance as the government has not approved any such vaccination drive. Currently, citizens above the age of 18 years are only allowed, it said.  

"A tweet has claimed that Bharat Biotech's vaccine, Covaxin, has been approved for children above 12 years. #PIBFactCheck: This claim is #Fake. No such approval has been given by the Government of India. Currently, citizens above the age of 18 are eligible for #COVID19Vaccination," said Government of India's nodal agency for communicating to media.  

It is to be noted that the government had permitted Covid 19 vaccination for all those above 18 years from May 1. Recently, DCGI had also approved a DRDO-developed ant-covid drug for emergency use.
