Bhagwant Mann resigns as Punjab chief of AAP after Arvind Kejriwals apology to Bikram Singh Majithia
A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is also AAP chief, apologised to former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia for making allegations that the latter was involved in drug trade, Bhagwant Mann, Punjab unit chief, resigned from his post. In a tweet today, Bhagwant Mann said, “I m resigning as a president of AAP Punjab ...but my fight against drug mafia and all kind of corruption in Punjab will continue as an “Aam Aadmi “ of Punjab”.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is striving hard to get out of a slew of defamation cases in which he is embroiled, apologised in court on Thursday to the former Punjab minister for making “unfounded” allegations against him during the run-up to the Punjab assembly polls last year.
AAP sources said Kejriwal hopes to “similarly resolve” the defamation case filed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over the allegations he made regarding Jaitley’s stint as head of the Delhi and District Cricket Association, said an Indian Express report.
It may be noted that the rumblings within the Punjab unit began soon after Majithia released a letter sent by Kejriwal. Majithia had filed a defamation case against Kejriwal on May 20, 2016.
