The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announces holidays for banks under these categories - the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.
Bank holiday Janmashtami 2022: Most of the government, private offices including banks and educational institutions will be closed on the occasion of Janmashtami festival. According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) holiday calendar list, banks will not be open to the public on Janmashtami. However, there is a lot of confusion among the public about the date.
While banks and offices are closed today in some cities on account of Janmashtami, banks and offices mostly in northern states will be closed for the public on August 19.

18 August, Janmashtami: Bhubaneswar, Dehradun
19 August, Janmashtami: Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gangtok, Jaipur, Jammu, Jammu, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar.
Banks in Delhi and a few other cities will not observe holiday on Janmashtami.
