Aviation: Yogi Adityanath govt gives Jewar Airport mega project big boost with this step

In a big concern, a stalemate seems to have been reached between the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led UP government and farmers of Jewar tehsil in Gautam Buddha Nagar district over the compensation amount for acquisition of land. While villagers are willing to part with their lands, but their demands are astronomical, especially villages like Rohi. This covers more than a third (481 hectares) of the 1,263 hectares of the land to be acquired in the first phase. Now, it emerges that CM Adityanath has given certain instructions that will boost the project.
 
Last week, residents of Rohi refused to accept the rate being offered for their land — up to Rs 2,500 per square metre during their negotiations with the government, and they reportedly stuck to their demand of four times the circle rate, which is Rs 3,600 per sqm (1 hectare is 10,000 sqm). 
 
Amidst this stalemate, the UP government has been asked by the central officials about the status of the land acquisition for the project, said an Indian Express report.
 
With general elections slated next year, the state government is reportedly trying to clear all procedural roadblocks to showcase this projects. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already met farmers and assured them that their interests will be taken care of. 
 
Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh told IE, “The CM has given clear directions saying that we should fix a compensation for farmers which are in their favour. Keeping in mind the re-location that farmers will have to deal with, arrangements need to be made accordingly.” 
 
The farmers have reportedly been offered two options for compensation, and discussions on the matter was taking place in six villages. Under the first option, the government has reportedly proposed the compensation amount at Rs 2,300 per square metre along with certain benefits, including housing, compensation for the cost of construction (tubewells, houses) on the plot, employment for one member of each family or a compensation of Rs 5 lakh, cost of cattle among others. 
 
While the second proposal reportedly provides a compensation of Rs 2,500 per square metre without additional benefits. Farmers, however, maintained that they were still waiting for the news to reach them. 
 
In the first phase, the state government reportedly wants to acquire 1,441 hectare from eight villages -- Rohi, Parohi, Banwaribas, Ramner, Dayanatpur, Kishorpur, Mukimpur Shivara and Ranhera. Of these, three villages will be excluded from the acquisition process as of now, as land from Ramner, Mukimpur Shivara and Banwaribas will not be needed.

The government will acquire a total of 5,000 hectares for the project with its estimated budget of Rs 15,000- 20,000 crore so that the airport may become operational by 2022-23.
