Aviation Data: Air traffic improves in October as government allows 100% capacity in domestic carriers

In this regard, the air traffic of India in the month of October has jumped 27 per cent month-on-month to 89.85 lakh passengers.

The government in October had also allowed the airline carriers to operate domestic flights with 100 per cent occupancy, first time in 1.5 years, while earlier in the month of November, it has also allowed meals in the flight with over 2 hours’ travel.
InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo)’s passenger load factor stood at 78 per cent in October as against 73.6 per cent in September, while its market share dipped to 53.5 per cent in October from 56.2 per cent in September.
While Air India, which is soon to be under Tata Group’s wing, passenger load factor came at 76 per cent in October versus 63.9 per cent in September, while its market share also reduced marginally to 11.8 per cent as against 12.1 per cent in September.
SpiceJet’s passenger load factor stood at 82.2 per cent in the month of October, highest of all other carriers, as compared to 78.8 per cent in September and market share came at 9 per cent versus 8.5 per cent MoM.
GoFirst airlines passenger load factor was reported at 75.4 per cent from 74.1 per cent and market share at 9.8 per cent versus 8.2 per cent MoM. Similarly, Tata Group-backed Vistara’s passenger load factor grew marginally 75.3 per cent and market share slipped to 7.8 per cent month-on-month.
The ministry of civil aviation, since May 2021, had capped the occupancy at 85 per cent, while it was increased to 100 per cent from 18 October 2021. The government had kept the capacity at 72.5 per cent between August 12 and September 18 this year.
