Assam Assembly Election Result 2021: On Sunday, May 2, the results of the Assam Assembly election will be announced. The polls were held in three phases for 126-member Assam assembly seats from March 27 to April 6.

Apart from Assam, the outcome of four other state assembly elections will also be released on Sunday namely West Bengal (294 seats), Tamil Nadu (234 seats), Kerala (140 seats) and Puducherry (30 seats).

Assam Assembly Election Result 2021 - Main candidates to watch out for:

1. Sarbananda Sonowal - BJP

Assam's current Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has contested from Majuli which is an ST reserved constituency. He is contesting against Congress’ Rajib Lochan Pegu.

2. Himanta Biswa Sarma- BJP

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is considered to be a BJP strongman and is one of the high-profile candidates of the Assembly polls. He contested from Jalukbari for the fifth consecutive term against Congress' Romen Ch Borthakur.

3. Ripun Bora- Congress

Contesting from the Gohpur constituency, Congress Assam Pradesh chief Ripun Bora is fighting against BJP's Utpal Borah.

There are speculations in the political circle that if Congress-led Mahajot comes to power in the state then Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi can be the party's Chief Ministerial candidate.

AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal is expected to turn out to be the kingmaker in these polls if Congress wins.

According to the exit polls prediction, the BJP-led alliance is going to retain power in the state with a comfortable majority.
