Arun Jaitley set to resume charge as Finance Minister
Arun Jaitley will resume charge of the finance and corporate affairs ministries today after a gap of more than three months following a kidney transplant surgery. President Ram Nath Kovind assigned the portfolios to Jaitley on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jaitley, 65, had stopped attending office in early April to undergo the surgery on May 14. In the meantime, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was temporarily given an additional charge of the finance and corporate affairs ministry in May.
Jaitley will resume charge of both finance and corporate affairs portfolios today at the North Block office at 11am. Since his surgery, he has been staying in a controlled environment as per the doctors' advice.
A prominent member of India Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s inner circle, Jaitley, had a gastric bypass operation in 2014 to keep diabetes in check. Although Jaitley was absent from the office for a long time, he was active on the social media. He wrote several blogs and economic and political issues during this time.

He, however, attended the Rajya Sabha for the election of Deputy Chairman on August 9. This was his first public appearance since May 14. He has been a leader of Rajya Sabha since 2000.
