A cut in petrol and diesel prices has been ordered by Modi government from today onward. Fuel rates had rocketed to new highs in recent months on the back of rising global crude oil prices. Consumers can now expect at least Rs 2.50 cut in their petrol and diesel purchases now as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced a cut in excise duty by Rs 1.50 on Thursday while OMCs were expected to absorb another Re 1. Therefore, a total of Rs 2.50 will be cut in both petrol and diesel prices. This would be second cut in excise duty for petrol and diesel prices. However, few other states have also decided to give relief to their consumers by reducing their VAT. Apart from crude oil prices, it was VAT and excise duty which made it very difficult for OMCs to trim the prices. However, now all two-wheeler and car holders can rejoice, as some states are now offering you petrol and diesel lower by up to Rs 5 per litre.
Here's a list of states, where petrol and diesel price have been cut.
Maharashtra: Maharashtra Government decides to give the additional benefits to its customers of 2.5 per litre which means the total deduction at cost is Rs 5 per. Today, the current price of petrol in financial hub of Mumbai, was at Rs 86.97 from previous Rs 91.34 and diesel at Rs 77.45 from previous Rs 80.10.
Gujarat: Just like Maharashtra, govt of Gujarat also decided to reduce additional Rs 2.50 which means total relief of Rs 5 per litre. Today, the price of petrol in its capital Gandhinagar was Rs 78.61 from previous Rs 83.17, and diesel is Rs 76.35 from previous Rs 81.06.
Goa: CM Manohar Parrikar also tweeted that Goa Government will also reduce fuel prices by Rs 2.50 in the state which would also mean the total deduction cost of Rs 5 per litre. Currently price of petrol in its capital Panjim is at Rs 75.20 from previous Rs 77.56, while diesel is at Rs 74.37 from previous Rs 76.98.
Uttarakhand: Further, Uttarakhand government also decided to give an additional relief of Rs 2.5 on petrol & diesel, hence, total benefit of Rs 5/litre in the state. Currently, in the capital Dehradun the price of petrol is Rs 81.82 from previous Rs 83.79 and diesel is Rs 73.40 from previous Rs 75.95.
Chhattisgarh: The government here has also decided to reduce Rs 2.5 on both petrol & diesel. Currently, the price of petrol in Raipur is Rs 79.38 and diesel is Rs 76.33 compared to previous day price of Rs 84.33 and Rs 81.45 respectively.
Haryana: A Rs 2.5 per litre cut was also given by this state government. Today, the capital Chandigarh saw petrol price at Rs 78.45 compared to previous day price of Rs 80.85, whereas diesel was available at Rs 70.93 as against previous day of Rs 73.36.
Uttar Pradesh: Just like every other above mentioned state, the UP Govt also decided to give additional relief to the citizens. The state's capital Lucknow today, saw petrol at Rs 78.95 compared to previous day price of Rs 83.18. While diesel was at Rs 71 compared to previous day price of Rs 75.47
Jammu and Kashmir: Joining in the bandwagon was also this state government, as they slashed the petrol & diesel prices of Rs 2.5 per litre. Today, the capital Srinagar was selling petrol at Rs 83.43 compared to previous day price of Rs 88.39, whereas diesel was offered at Rs 73.95 as against previous day price of Rs 78.94.
Assam: The state government also decided to reduce tax on petrol & diesel prices by Rs 2.50. Today, the capital Guwahati was selling petrol at Rs 81.41 and diesel at Rs 73.96 versus the previous day of Rs 86.53 and Rs 78.94 respectively
Tripura: Giving additional relief of Rs 2.5 on petrol and diesel prices, the petrol price in Tripura's capital Agartala was at Rs 77.70, while diesel was sold at Rs 70.79. In previous day, the city sold petrol for Rs 82.36 and diesel at Rs 75.60.
Madhya Pradesh: The state's CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted saying, they have decided to cut of the rates in fuel prices. Hence, a nearly Rs 5 per litre cut was witnessed in both petrol and diesel price in capital Bhopal, as today they were price at Rs 84.69 and Rs 74.33 compared to previous day price of Rs 89.79 and Rs 79.50 respectively.

Jharkhand: Interestingly, this state decided to give relief of Rs 2.5 per litre only on diesel prices and not including petrol prices. Today, the price of diesel in its capital Ranchi was at Rs 74.75 compared to previous price of Rs 79.71. Whereas, the price of petrol stood at Rs 78.11 as against previous day of Rs 82.46.
