Maharashtra Semester Exams 2020 Cancelled: On Friday the Maharashtra government decided to cancel the final year/ semester exam of non-professional/professional courses in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic. Due to this pandemic situation in the country the School, college and university exams were put on hold to control the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus. However, with the rising number of the COVID-19 cases in the state, the Maharashtra government has now decided to cancel the pending exams for final year students.
Noting to the current situation, Maharashtra Government has announced that it will not be holding the Final Semester Exams 2020 for all universities and colleges across the state for 2019-20 academic session.

The decision to cancel Maharashtra Final Semester Exams 2020 will be applicable to students from both professional and non-professional degree programmes. Furthermore, the universities across the state have been given the autonomy to decide on the formula they would like to follow to award marks and declare semester results 2020 for their students.
Decision Announced by CMO Maharashtra
Today afternoon, the order issued by CMO Maharashtra cited that “the present atmosphere is not yet conducive to conduct any exam or classes.” Furthermore, the order also empowered the universities to define the formula on the basis of which students will be provided marks and results will be declared for them.
Decision After CM Uddhav Thackeray’s Letter to PM about Exams
Earlier yesterday, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackery had written a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention on the matter of pending universities and college exams in the state. He had asked PM to instruct national level apex authorities like All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Council of Architecture (CoA), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Bar Council of India (BCI), National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) and National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology to back government’s decision to cancel the pending final semester exams, looking at the prevailing situation of Coronavirus in the state.

UGC asked to redefine Exam Guidelines
The decision from Maharashtra Government to cancel all Final Semester Exams for students comes at a time when a committee appointed by UGC – University Grants Commission, has proposed cancellation of all final semester exams across the country. The panel’s recommendation are based on the various factors including the rising number of COVID-19 infection and the digital divide among the students, that may make online examinations not feasible at this moment.
