Airports Closed Today: The landfall process of the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas centered around south-southeast of Balasore began this morning as per a report by ANI. The coastal parts of the states of West Bengal and Odisha were strongly hit by strong winds and heavy rains. Due to the cyclonic storm, several airports have been closed as a precautionary measure.

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Wednesday also cancelled six flights between Mumbai to Bhubaneswar and Kolkata due to Cyclone Yaas. The flights to other regions will continue to operate as per schedule as per an airport spokesperson. According to the weather department, the storm will reach Jharkhand tomorrow.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has informed through a tweet about the airports that will remain closed because of this cyclonic storm. Here is the full details of the airports that will remain closed due to the cyclonic storm:
1) Bhubaneswar airport will remain closed from May 25, 2021, till May 27, 2021, until 5 AM
2) Jharsuguda airport will remain closed from 1 AM of May 26, 2021, till May 27, 2021, until 7.45 AM
3) Rourkela and Durgapur airports will remain closed on May 26, 2021
4) Kolkata airport will also remain closed on May 26, 2021, from 8.30 AM to 7.45 PM
The AAI further informed that the closure of the airports will be reviewed as per weather and the airports have been directed to carry restoration to restart operation.
As per a DNA report, landfall of cyclone Yaas has created widespread damage in different areas of East Midnapore and the coastal areas of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who has been in the control room all through the night and has been monitoring the storm personally said, "We have evacuated more than 15 lakh people and the process of evacuation is still on".
