Aadhaar card mobile linking! You cannot do this, if your card is not linked with registered mobile number - Heres what UIDAI says

UIDAI has been directing citizens to link their Aadhaar card with their latest mobile phone number. UIDAI, the 12-digit biometric maker states that one cannot download their Aadhaar card if one is without a registered mobile number. If the linking is not there, they will not be able to avail Government & Non-Government services, Subsidy Benefits, Pensions, Scholarships, Social Benefits, Banking services, Insurance services, Taxation services, Education, Employment, Healthcare etc. 

UIDAI took to Twitter to say, “Don’t Have Aadhaar Registered Mobile Number. You cannot download Aadhaar. But you can order a reprint of your Aadhaar number.”

A citizen needs to download Aadhaar card due to certain emergencies. For instance, is an Aadhaar card is lost by a person who needs to file Income Tax Returns or open a bank account in hurry. With the help UIDAI, the Aadhaar card can be received online. In case of ordering reprint, one has to wait for at least 15 days time before the card gets delivered.

Hence, in case if you have not registered your mobile number with Aadhaar card, then you are required to visit a Permanent Enrolment Centre to get it registered. Once you visit enrolment centre, fill out a Aadhaar correction form. This time mention your current usable mobile number. 

Then submit your form and provide biometric authentication. After following this procedure the executive will give you an acknowledgement slip. Now this slip will contain  an Update Request Number (URN). 

URN is 14 digit unique number given to those who have updated their Aadhaar card. This number can be used to track the status of the Aadhaar card. Apart from this, you can also check your Aadhaar update status via UIDAI’s toll-free number 1947.

The moment your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar card, you will start receiving One-Time-Passwords to avail services. 

However, if you are not in a hurry, then you can still avail Order Aadhaar reprint service without even need for registering mobile number. 

UIDAI recently said, “#OrderAadhaarReprint in few easy steps. The service has a nominal charge of Rs. 50 (payable online) that includes GST & Speed Post Charges.” Follow these 9 steps highlighted by UIDAI. 

After receiving order for Order Aadhaar Reprint from the resident UIDAI will handover printed Aadhaar Letter to DoP within 5 working days (excluding the date of request). Aadhaar Letter will be delivered using SPEED POST Service of Department of Post (DoP) in line with DoP delivery norms and Delivery Status may be tracked using DoP Status Track Services.
