UIDAI Hyderabad has issued notices to 127 Aadhaar Card holders after receiving reports from the state police.
UIDAI alert: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Hyderabad has received reports from the State Police that 127 people have obtained Aadhaar card on false pretenses and were not qualified to obtain a card. As per the Aadhaar Act, such Aadhaar numbers are liable to be cancelled. Therefore, the RO Hyderabad has sent notices to those 127 Aadhaar Card holders to appear in person and to substantiate their claims for getting an a card.
UIDAI informed about the matter in series of tweets citing, "After their (127 Aadhaar Card holder whose report has been received) replies are received & examined; if it is found and proved that if any of them has obtained Aadhaar by submitting false documents or through false pretences, then their Aadhaar is liable to be cancelled or suspended depending on the severity of the transgression." The UIDAI went on to clarify that the Supreme Court of India in its landmark decision has directed it not to issue Aadhaar card to illegal immigrants and the UIDAI exercise has to be seen in this regard. The UIDAI also said that Aadhaar Card is not a document of citizenship. It said, "Aadhaar is not a document of citizenship and UIDAI has been mandated under the Aadhaar Act to ascertain residency of a person in India for 182 days prior to applying for Aadhaar."

However, the UIDAI also made it clear that this exercise has nothing to do with the citizenship and cancellation of Aadhaar number (in case) doesn't have relationship with their nationality citing, "These notices have nothing to do with citizenship and cancellation of Aadhaar number is in no way related to the nationality of any resident."
