Aadhaar Card Address Update: As per the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Aadhaar card is a valid address proof and in case there is any change, the same must be updated on the UIDAI website uidai.gov.in by the card holder. Aadhaar Card address update can be done even when the Aadhaar card holder doesn't have a valid document to prove current address. As per the UIDAI website, Aadhaar card address update can be done without any valid address proof document by requesting for Address Validation Letter with the help of an Address Verifier.

In Aadhaar Card address update process, Validation Letter is sent to the Address Verifier’s address. The letter will contain a secret code sent for validation after the Address Verifier consents to the use of address by the requesting resident. After the request is submitted successfully the resident will get the Aadhaar Validation Letter within 30 days from the date of raising request.

http://www.uidai.gov.in or https://resident.uidai.gov.in and select “Request Aadhaar Validation Letter” option under Aadhaar Update Section. This will open Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) in which you will be required to follow the steps given below.

Stage 1: Resident initiates the request for Address Validation Letter

a) Log in with Aadhaar;
b) Enter Verifier's Aadhaar; and
c) Submit.

Stage 2: Consent by address Verifier

a) Verifier receives SMS with a link to give consent for the update;
b) Verifier clicks on the link and receives the second SMS with OTP for verification;
c) Enters this OTP, captcha and verifies; and
d) Resident gets SRN via SMS

Stage 3: Resident receives confirmation of Verifier consent

a) Log in with SRN;
b) Preview Address;
c) Edit Local Language (if required); and
d) Submit.

Stage 4: Resident received Letter

a) Address Validation Letter with Secret Code sent to verifier's address via Post;
b) Resident visits SSUP and clicks on 'Proceed to Update Address' link;
c) Logs in with Aadhaar;
d) Select option to 'Update Address via Secret Code';
e) Enter Secret Code;
f) Review the new address and submit; and
g) Note your Update Request Number (URN) shown on screen.

How to track Aadhaar Card address update status

On successful submission of an online address update request, you receive a URN (Update Request Number) of the format 0000/00XXX/XXXXX. This is shown on screen and also sent via SMS to your registered mobile number. Use this URN and your Aadhaar number to track the status of your Aadhaar update by logging in at ssup.uidai.gov.in/checkSSUPStatus/checkupdatestatus.
