7th Pay Commission latest news today: Among many special benefits for government employees are the allowances given from their employers. For government  employees, good news is on the cards as the Ministry of Finance along with government has decided to revise canteen allowances. The canteen allowances has been nearly doubled under 7th Pay Commission. Right from general manager to assistant will be key beneficiaries of these allowances. However, it needs to be noted that, the revision to be made under canteen allowances will be given to non-statutory departmental canteen employees consequent upon the recommendation of the 7th CPC.

Recently, the Ministry of Personnel & Public Grievance & Pensions Department of Personnel & Training notified that this has been considered in consultation with the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance and it has been decided to revise the Canteen allowances by a factor of 1.5 admissible to certain categories of canteen employees. 

Under the new revision, the general manager will receive allowance of Rs 1,050 per month under canteen categories Type 4A. While, canteen categories as being for Type A, B, C, D, 2A and 3A the allowance would come at Rs 525 per month. 

As for Dr.General Manager/ Manager Grade 2/Manager cum accountant will get canteen allowance of Rs 450 per month under Type A, B, C, D, 2A and 3A. As for, Type 4A the allowance would be Rs 900 per month. 

Even assistant manager-cum store keeper will receive allowance of Rs 375 per month under  Type A, B, C, D, 2A and 3A. As for Type 4A the allowance would be Rs 750 per month. 

The ministry stated that the revised canteen allowance will be admissible with effect from July 01, 2017. The rates shall further increase by 25% every time dearness allowances increases by 50%. 

Under 7th CPC, the canteen allowances is defined as special Duty Allowance.

Since the time 7th CPC got clean chit from cabinet, a host of reforms has taken place in the past few years - from central government employees to Indian Railways personnel. In the latest development, the Railway Pension Court in the North Eastern Railway (NE Railway)  has delivered orders to revise pension of retired Indian Railways employees. Apart from this, the government has also waived off the application and examination fees for entrance examinations for candidates applying under PwD quota.
