7th Pay Commission: Odisha School College Teachers and Employees’ United Forum has decided to put off their protests till November 30, 2018. Block Grant Teachers in Odisha have been demanding pay hike on par with the regular state government teachers. These teachers are seeking benefits of 7th pay commission, service condition and job regularisation among others under the new Grant-in-Aid (GIA) system.
They believe that if these demands are met which will pave way for the implementation of 7th Pay Commission, according to Pabitra Mahala, president of the forum. Mahala said a 12-member delegation had a meeting with the CMO and the Chief Secretary on Friday, according to OTV report.
"Discussions were held on amending the guidelines pertaining to the abolition of Block grant system. The state Law department has promised to look into this matter and make amendments once the Supreme Court resumes after Durga puja holidays on 26th of this month," Mahala said.
Golak Nayak, convenor of the forum, said if the government tries to cheat us like it did earlier then it will see protests like never before.
The teachers, lecturers and other employees of 4,000 block grant schools and 1500 colleges from across Odisha were on strike for 42 days to press for their demands. They are also demanding benefits like DA, HRA, seniority in tenure, maintenance of service books, and pension among others facilities on a par with the regular government teachers.
A regular government teacher in Odisha gets around Rs 74,000 at the time of retirement while a block-grant teacher gets Rs 17,500, according to an IE Online report.
