Keeping in mind the festive season, PM Narendra Modi-led Cabinet has announced 5 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central government employees. Not only Central government employees, but pensioners too will get the benefit of this big decision by Modi government.

Confirming the big development of DA hike, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, "Under leadership of Prime Minister Modi, several decision have been taken and good news for govt employees is that Dearness Allowance has been hiked by 5%."

Biggest DA hike in 3 years

This is the biggest DA hike for Central government employees in the past 3 years. As of now, DA is 12%; and this has been hiked by 3% so far.

Harishankar Tiwari, Former Chairman of the AG Office Brotherhood, DA's Calculator, told Zee Business Digital that AICPI figures have increased between January and June 2019. The DA for June was 17.09% which is more than 5% as compared to December. That is why the government has increased it by this much.

-June 2019 : AICPI-316

-Total 12 months : 3673 (301+301+301+302+302+301+307+307+309+312+314+316)/12)-(261.4)*100/ 261.4)

-DA hike : 17%-12%=5%

Earlier, in Jan 2019, the government had hiked DA by 3 per cent. Generally, government announces DA hike before Dussehra in March and September.
