Majority of urban Indians will not do online shopping if the e-commerce companies do not offer discounts, said a latest survey.

India's news app Inshorts in collaboration with global research firm Ipsos recently conducted  a survey titled 'Youth of the Nation Poll' from July 25 to August 7 this year and has released the findings of the second edition of India’s largest ever opinion poll.

Commenting on the poll, Inshorts chief executive officer and co-founder Azhar Iqubal, said in a statement, “With the Youth of the Nation Poll, we aim to provide the country an insight into what is young urban India thinking about the most burning issues of the country and their outlook on governance, politics, business, career and technology. And to be able to do this objectively in line with the best practices of polling worldwide, this time around we are delighted to have brought premier research firm Ipsos on board to oversee and validate the survey methodology and execution.”

The survey comprised of 80% of respondents below the age of 35 and they hailed from the country's top 10 cities including Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Kolkata.

Ipsos India chief executive officer Amit Adarkar said, "Since majority of Indians are aged below 35 years, how the youth perceives national issues across different domains is quite insightful in terms of how they are rating different initiatives. After all, these are all educated, tech savvy youngsters with a point of view. And their voice counts."

It saw a participation of about 1.5 lakh users who were asked 24 questions on a range of issues, which dominated headlines in 2016.

The poll comprised of questions to participants such as if they have used a dating app and have met someone through it, has their experience as railway passengers improved in the last two years, would they prefer working with a startup or a large corporation, what do they think about the Government of India asking Raghuram Rajan to continue for a second term, etc.,

The survey findings have showed that about 54% of urban Indians said that they would not shop online if the products cost the same in the retail markets, while 42% said they would shop and 4% said they do not buy products online.

On the dating app question, only 7% respondents said they have met someone through dating app, while 67% voted stating they have not met someone through it and 26% said that they have never used a dating app.

According to the findings, when respondents were asked about their experience as a railway passenger has witnessed any improvement in the last two years, about 59% users said that it has improved while 12% responded that it has not improved and about 29% said it has remained the same.

Most young Indians surveyed in the poll preferred working with a startup than with a large corporation if similar job is being offered by both organisations, the release said.

More than 54% users responded their preference for working with startup while 36% voted for working with large corporation and a little more than 10% said they did not know whether to work for startup or large corporation.

It's interesting to note that majority of young Indians want outgoing RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan to continue with the second term.

Around 73% of surveyed urban Indians felt that the Government of India should have requested Rajan for a second term, while 13% did not want Rajan for second term and 14% were not sure whether he should continue with second term or not.

When survey participants were asked if they think the government should continue to own and manage Air India and BSNL, around 53% voted saying they want government to own stakes in both companies while 39% voted stating it should divest its stakes while 8% responded they don't know.

The findings showed that around 80% respondents prefer Youtube to watch videos online while 11% voted for Facebook and about 9% voted for Whatsapp.

As per the findings, Instagram is popular social network in India after Facebook. About 54% users voted for Instagram followed by Twitter with 39% votes and Snapchat with less than 7% votes, it said.
