Noida Supertech Twin Towers Demolition: India's tallest building, which is even taller than Qutub Minar, will be razed to the ground on August 28, 2022, at 2.30 pm, in pursuance of a Supreme Court order. At least 3,700 kilos of explosives would be used to destroy the structure and will take only 9 seconds to finish the job.
Around 400 policemen will be on duty, besides another 150 to 200 traffic personnel would be at work throughout the day.
Explosives have been planted in the Twin Towers over the past two weeks. The twin towers are located on the Noida-Greater Noida expressway and have over 900 flats in an area of around 7.5 lakh sq. feet.
A Mumbai-based firm Edifice Engineering that has previously demolished four illegal apartments near Kochi in Kerala, will employ a technique called implosion for Noida twin towers.
Why are Twin Towers demolished?
Amid serious violations of building codes, the Supreme Court had observed that the Noida Authority and Supertech engaged in ‘nefarious complicity’. The apex court eventually ordered the construction company to demolish the buildings at its own expense under the Noida Authority’s guidance..

How dust will be handled
Water tankers, sprinklers and smog guns will be used to clear the dust generated due to demolition, moreover, sweeping machines will also be installed on the roads within two kilometers radius of the buildings as collapse of Twin Towers will generate around 80,000 tonnes of debris.
What Expert Says
It could either be a matter of a few seconds or a tedious process of one-and-a-half to two years to safely demolish Supertech's illegal twin towers in Noida.
Edifice partner Utkarsh Mehta said there are basically three techniques to safely raze down any structure of such a scale diamond cutter, use of robots, and implosion.
Meet the Blaster of Noida Twin Towers
Chetan Dutta, a 49-year-old blaster, will press the button to commence the demolition. "It's like a dream come true," says Dutta, who hails from Hisar in Haryana. He was approached by Edifice Engineering, which has been tasked with demolishing the towers, to act as a blaster.

Final Check-up
The final check-up of explosives and related arrangements for demolition of Supertech's illegal twin towers in Noida were underway on Saturday, project officials said here.
All work related to placement of explosives and connecting them is already complete. The only element remaining was interconnecting the twin towers and placing a 100-metre-long cable from the structures to the exploder, from where the button would be pressed on Sunday, they said.
Environmental Concerns
BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh on Friday wrote to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath raising concerns about the possible environmental impact of the demolition of the twin towers in Noida scheduled to take place on August 28.
The former Enforcement Directorate officer-turned-politician suggested measures to mitigate the impact of dust and debris once the nearly-100-meter tall illegal structures have been razed.
Evacuation of nearby residents
As many as 5,000 residents of Emerald Court and ATS Village -- the two closest societies to the twin towers -- will be evacuated by 7:00 am on Sunday and around 2,700 vehicles belonging to them will also be removed from the premises.
Residents of twin towers vicinity plan vacation, stay at hotels
Several people living in buildings close to Supertech's twin towers plan for a vacation while many others have booked hotels to stay on Sunday when the structures will be razed with explosives. Amid safety clearance from officials, the nearby residents will be allowed to return only after 4 pm.
UP CM reviews preparedness
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday reviewed preparations for the demolition of Supertech Twin Towers in Noida, which is scheduled to take place on August 28.
According to a statement issued, Adityanath said people's safety should be ensured at all cost and directed to take care of the environmental challenges in view of the demolition.
Weather Update
Winds will blow from the northwest on August 28, at the time of the twin towers demolition. It will be a threat to Delhi as dust may travel to Uttar Pradesh initially but may change direction on August 29 and blow from the east, Skymet Weather vice-president Mahesh Palawat said.
Roads to stay diverted on Aug 28
Roads leading to Supertech's soon-to-be demolished twin towers in Noida will remain diverted on Sunday while around 600 police officials, including traffic personnel, will be deployed for law and order duty.
Police officials said they have issued an advisory and even Google maps will be updated for real-time traffic updates. Green corridors will be created to facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles.
One nautical mile of air space briefly unavailable
Noida Authority said one nautical mile of air space around the twin tower demolition site in Noida will remain briefly unavailable for flights on August 28, 2022. A nautical mile is equal to approximately 1.8 kilometres.
The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has given its consent for this, the Noida Authority said as it oversaw preparations for demolition of the nearly 100-metre-tall twin towers on Sunday.
