ITR filed till 1 PM today
As many as 19,53,581 ITRs have been filed upto 1 PM today, while 4,67,902 ITRs were filed in the last one hour. For any assistance, taxpayers can connect on orm@cpc.incometax.gov.in or Income Tax help desk numbers 1800 103 0025 & 1800 419 0025.
Income Tax helpline number: Income Tax India has released 24/7 helpline numbers for assistance in e-filing. Anyone facing issues in e-filing can call on these numbers to address the issue.

ITR filed till late Saturday
Over 5 crore ITRs have been filed upto 8:36 pm on Saturday. Income Tax Department has urged those were yet to file their returns by today, July 31 to avoid late fee. Here is what it tweeted:

As many as 26,82,031 ITRs have been filed upto 1600 hours today and around 3,97,792 ITRs have been filed in the last 1hour, said Income Tax India on Saturday.

ITR Filing: Who are exempted?
The government had through Finance Act 2021 inserted a new Section 194P in the Income Tax Act, 1961 to define certain conditions to allow exempting senior citizens from filing Income Tax Returns. The new Section 194P came into effect on April 1, 2021.
Super senior citizens can be exempted from ITR filing under following circumstances:
1. Senior citizen should be of age 75 years or above
2. Senior citizen should be a resident in the previous year
3. Senior citizen has pension income and interest income only
4. Interest income accrued/earned from the same specified bank in which he/she is receiving pension
5. He/she shall be required to furnish a declaration to the specified bank containing particulars, in such form and verified in such manner, as may be prescribed
ITR filing last date extended? The due date for filing Income Tax Return without a late fee is July 31. As of now, there is no proposal to extend the ITF filing last date.

The deadline for composition taxpayers to file form CMP-08 for April to June, 2022 quarter is also 31st July, 2022. Late filing of form form CMP-08 will attract interest

Income tax refund status check
If you have already filed your income tax return 2022 and have claimed return, you can track refund status by following certain steps. These are refunds allowed by the Income Tax department for any excess tax paid by them to the government.
Step 1. visit www.incometax.gov.in
Step 2: Log in to your account. For this, you will need to enter PAN/Aadhaar number as user ID and password
Step 3: Click on 'e-file' option
Step 4: Select 'Income tax returns' under the 'e-file' option
Step 5: Select 'View Filed returns'
Step 6: Check the latest ITR filed
Step 7: Select option 'View Details' to see the status of ITR filed
What is form form ITR U in Income Tax?
In case you miss the 31st December deadline, a new form ITR U has to be used for updated return and give reasons for updating your income. The reasons could be: return previously not filed; income not reported correctly; wrong heads of income chosen
