Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry was on Sunday killed in a road accident after his car hit a divider in Maharashtra's Palghar district neighbouring Mumbai, a police official said.
Mistry was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car, he said.
The accident took place around 3.15 pm, when Mistry was travelling to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. The accident took place on a bridge over the Surya river. It seems an accident, the police official said.
The other two persons travelling with him, including the car driver, were injured. All the injured persons have been shifted to a hospital in Gujarat.
Cyrus Pallonji Mistry (4 July 1968 - 4 September 2022) was an Irish businessman of Indian origin. He was the chairman of Tata Group, an Indian business conglomerate, from 2012 to 2016. He was the sixth chairman of the group, and only the second (after Nowroji Saklatwala) to not bear the surname Tata.
In mid-2012, he was chosen by a selection panel to head the Tata Group and took charge in December of the same year.
Girish Kuber, the editor of Marathi daily Loksatta and author of the book 'Tatayan' based on the Tata Group, said Mistry had a vision for industrial growth and was well known for his command of statistical data. "The Mistry family had a maximum holding in the Tata Group, he said.
Mistry had good intentions to reorganise the Tata Group's finances and its structure. In Mistry's death, we have lost a promising personality from the industry, Kuber said.

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran condoles death of Cyrus Mistry

Maha Deputy CM Fadnavis asks police to conduct detailed probe into Cyrus Mistry's fatal accident
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said he has asked the state police to conduct a detailed investigation into the accident in which former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry was killed.
Fadnavis said he was shocked and deeply pained to know about the demise of Mistry (54) in the unfortunate accident near Palghar adjoining Mumbai.
"Spoke to DGP and instructed for detailed investigations," tweeted Fadnavis, who is also the state home minister.
"My deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues," he said.

What Police Officials say?
The police officer said the injured occupants of the car- Anayta Pandol, who was driving the car, and Daryus Pandol- have been shifted to a private hospital in Vapi in Gujarat for treatment. Palghar Police officer Sachin Navadkar said the local police are carrying out a further investigation.
