Independence Day 2023 Highlights: President Murmu visits War Memorial; PM Modi eyes No. 3 spot for Indian economy
Independence Day 2023 Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised his government's policies, aimed indirectly at the Gandhi family, and highlighted India's growing presence in world politics in his address to the nation on the 77th Independence Day on Tuesday (August 15, 2023). In his 10th address to the nation as PM on Independence Day, he said that his government is working for the development of different sections of society, and schemes like Ayushman Bharat have helped crores of people immensely. He said that because of the government's scheme, 13.5 crore people have come out of poverty. He also said that the policies the Bharatiya Janata Party government is working at present will impact the next 1,000 years of the country's history.
He said that even as the world is finding it hard to come out of the shackles of the coronavirus pandemic, India's economy has emerged as the fifth-largest in the world.
The PM said he aims to take India's economy to third place in the next five years.
Taking a swipe at the Congress party indirectly, he said that corruption, dynasty politics, and appeasement are blots on the character of the country.
Reinforcing his belief that he would become the PM again after the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the PM says that he inaugurates the government schemes he launches and will inaugurate the ones he is launching at present.
He also highlighted Indians' growing presence in the global startup industry and said that the top 3 startups in the world are headed by Indians.
