Schools Closed due to COVID-19: Rising number of Omicron cases in the country has forced states to shut schools once again for the sake of students’ safety. When the COVID-19 pandemic first broke out in 2020, the schools and other educational institutions were closed across the country. The schools and colleges were then reopened in a phased manner. However, the schools were again closed due to the second wave of the pandemic last year.
Again, the schools were being reopened in a phased manner until Omicron variant hit back again. The rising number of cases in the country has led to the closure of the schools once again. Here is a list of the states and union territories that have closed down the schools:
Delhi
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) directed to close down all schools as per a report by news agency ANI on December 28, 2021. However, it must be noted that the online teaching-learning activities, CBSE registration, exams and related activities for classes 11 to 12 would be conducted as per schedule. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also informed that Yellow alert of the Graded Response Plan came into effect as per the report. Source: Reuters
Maharashtra
News agency ANI tweeted from its official Twitter handle informing that Mumbai schools for classes 1 to 9 to be closed till January 31, 2022. The tweet said, "Maharashtra | Mumbai schools for classes 1 to 9 to be closed till 31st January, in view of rising COVID19 cases. School for classes 10 & 12 to continue: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMc)." Source: Reuters
