The meeting was held to discuss how to control the COVID-19 situation in the state as per a report by ANI. In the meeting it was decided that to ensure the safety of the students and to control the rising COVID-19 situation in the state, all the schools in Uttar Pradesh will be closed from March 24, Wednesday to March 31, 2021. It has also been decided that all other educational institutions where there are no ongoing exams, will also remain shut from March 25, 2021 to March 31, 2021.

Incidentally, schools and other educational institutions all over the country were closed since March last year when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The students then shifted to online mode of education since then.

After the COVID-19 situation seemed to be in control in the country, several state governments decided to reopen the schools and other educational institutions. CBSE has also announced the date sheets for the board exams to be held offline for the class 10 and class 12 board exam candidates.

However, amidst all these the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has compelled the UP government to shut down the schools and educational institutions till March 31, 2021.

Several other state governments have also announced the closure of schools and other educational institutions because of this surge in the COVID-19 situation.

Presently, as per Union Health Ministry there are 3,036 active COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh. 8759 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the state while 5,95,743 have recovered.
