In order to compensate for the lost time during the lockdown, Central Board of Secondary Education  (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) boards were mulling to slash the syllabus by 50 %, a report said. However, no official confirmation in this regard has been issued by the boards so far.

Keeping in mind interest of the students who had suffered immeasurably due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, these boards had earlier decided to cut down the syllabus by 30%.

As ambiguity prevails over syllabus cut, it is learnt that the boards were also planning to delay the exams by 45-60 days.

In July, the CBSE had announced that the syllabus for Class 9 to Class 12 will be reduced by 30 per cent in the current academic year.

A day later, the CISCE, that regulates the ICSE board exams, had also announced reduction of 25 per cent syllabus from this year’s curriculum in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile as part of Unlock 5, the Education Ministry released guidelines for reopening of schools. As per the guidelines, schools, colleges and other educational institutions can also open outside containment zones after October 15. However, the decision on whether to reopen educational institutions has been left with the states/Union Territories (UTs).
