In fact, Rajasthan is not the first state to promote its students to the next class without an exam. Earlier, in Maharashtra, the students from classes 1 to 8 were promoted to the next class without an exam.
Due to the rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the state, the Rajasthan government has already issued orders that schools for classes 1 to 9 will remain closed till April 19, 2021.
As for the students of classes 6 and 7 in Rajasthan, though there will be no exams for the students, they will be assessed on the basis of Social Media Interface for Learning Engagement (SMILE), Smile-2 and 'Aao Ghar Se Sikhein' initiatives undertaken by the state-based schools.
When the COVID-19 pandemic first struck the country a year ago, the schools and other educational institutions were closed all over the country. The students then had to shift to the digital platform for education. However, as situation seemed to be normalised, the states started to resume physical classes in the schools in a phased manner. But then the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases all over the country has compelled the states to close down the schools once again. in such a situation, digital platform can only be the mode of learning for the students. The authorities are also looking at alternative opportunities to evaluate the students.
Coming back to the COVID-19 situation in Rajasthan, the state recorded 5105 new coronavirus cases last Sunday in addition to 10 COVID-related deaths.
